To order from wholesaler online, connect with the wholesaler you already buy from on a B2B ordering app, pick items from their catalogue at your agreed prices, place the order, and track it until delivery. The bill then goes straight into your khata. No new supplier, no marketplace, and no long phone call reading out a list at closing time.
For most kirana owners, restocking looks the same every week: walk the shelves at night, scribble a list, call or WhatsApp the wholesaler, and hope everything arrives correctly. It works, but it eats time and leaves a lot of room for mistakes. Ordering online keeps what works (your supplier, your rates, your credit) and fixes the rest.
Why kirana stores are moving to online ordering
- Fewer mistakes. A written order with item names, pack sizes and quantities is harder to mishear than a phone call in a noisy godown.
- Order any time. You can place the order at night after closing. That is the idea behind "raat ko order, subah shop par maal".
- Live status. You can see whether the order is accepted, packed, dispatched or delivered instead of calling to ask.
- A clean record. Every order, delivery and bill is saved, so you can check what you bought last month in seconds.
- Credit stays clear. When the order is linked to your khata, you always know what you owe.
Before you start: what you need
You need very little to begin:
- A smartphone with internet.
- Your mobile number, for OTP login.
- Your wholesaler's code or QR (ask them, or ask them to join if they are not on the app yet).
- A rough idea of what you reorder regularly. The app will learn the rest from your history.
How to order from wholesaler online, step by step
Step 1: Connect with your wholesaler
Search for your wholesaler or enter the code they give you, or scan their QR. Once they accept, their catalogue opens for you. You can mark one supplier as your preferred wholesaler.
Step 2: Browse the catalogue or search
Look through categories or search by product name or brand. Check the pack size and unit carefully. A "box" of noodles and a "piece" are very different orders.
Step 3: Build your cart
Add the quantities you need. If you buy from two or three suppliers, add items from each; the cart is split into a separate order per wholesaler automatically.
Step 4: Review and choose payment
Check the total, then choose how you will pay: on credit (if your wholesaler allows it) or by cash, UPI or bank. If an order would cross your credit limit, the app tells you by how much, so you can reduce the order or pay by cash, UPI or bank instead.
Step 5: Track until delivery
After you place the order, the wholesaler accepts it (fully or partially), packs it and dispatches it. You see each step. At delivery, you share a delivery OTP with the driver to confirm that the goods reached you.
Step 6: Check the bill and the khata
After delivery, a GST tax invoice is generated for the delivered quantities and the amount is posted to your khata if you bought on credit. Our guide to the udhaar khata app explains how to read your dues and overdue amounts.
Tips to make online ordering faster
| Habit | Why it helps |
|---|---|
| Use repeat order | Your last order is loaded for review, so you only change what's different |
| Check smart reorder suggestions | See items you usually buy every few days that are due again |
| Order at a fixed time | Wholesalers plan packing and routes better when orders come in on time |
| Keep pack sizes consistent | Fewer mix-ups between box, carton and piece |
| Pay and record the same day | Your khata stays accurate |
How MaalMitra helps
MaalMitra connects kirana retailers with their existing wholesalers. It does not replace your supplier; it gives you both a better way to work together.
- OTP login and quick connect. Sign in with your mobile number and OTP, then connect to your wholesaler by code, search, QR or join link.
- Catalogue, search and categories for each wholesaler you are connected to, with their availability.
- Multi-wholesaler cart. One cart, automatically split into one order per supplier.
- Repeat order. Load a past order, review it and place it again.
- Smart reorder. Suggestions like "usually every N days, last ordered M days ago". MaalMitra never places orders on its own; you always decide.
- Quick basket with text ordering. Paste a list such as "Maggi 5 box, 2 Tata salt" and the items are matched to catalogues. The quick basket can also assign each item to a supplier: your preferred supplier for that item, then the one you last bought from, then your preferred wholesaler, then the cheapest.
- Order history and live status, with purchase history filters by wholesaler, dates, category and amount.
- Delivery OTP. A 4-digit OTP is shown only to you, and the driver enters it to confirm delivery.
- Khata and GST invoice. Delivered orders on credit go into your khata, and a GST tax invoice is created for each delivered order.
- Insights. See your spend by supplier and category, and your credit usage.

Common worries, answered
"My wholesaler is not on any app." Ask them to join. Wholesalers usually benefit the most: fewer calls, fewer wrong deliveries and faster collection. Until then, you can keep ordering the old way.
"I am not good with phones." If you can use WhatsApp, you can use a text-based quick basket. Type your list the way you normally would and review what the app matched.
"Will my prices change?" Your wholesaler sets the catalogue prices, just as they do today.
The bottom line
Learning to order from wholesaler online is less about technology and more about habit. Connect with the supplier you trust, use repeat orders for the regular stock, and let the khata update itself. You save time every night and get fewer surprises every morning.

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to change my wholesaler to order online?
No. MaalMitra is built for the wholesalers you already buy from. You connect using your wholesaler's code or QR, and your prices, credit and relationship stay the same.
Can I order from more than one wholesaler at once?
Yes. MaalMitra has a multi-wholesaler cart. You add items from different suppliers and the cart is split into a separate order for each wholesaler.
What if the wholesaler cannot supply everything I ordered?
The wholesaler can accept the order with partial fulfilment. You see which items and quantities were confirmed, and your khata is charged only for what is actually delivered.
Can I still send my order as a text message?
Yes. In MaalMitra's quick basket you can paste a WhatsApp-style message such as 'Maggi 5 box, 2 Tata salt' and the items are matched to your wholesalers' catalogues for you to review.
